A. I read neh8-9 last wk & 5 things that stood out 2 me:
1. Spirit of expectancy: Gs pep gathered 2 hear G/wanted 2hear from G.
2. Spirit of yieldedness: Gs pep respon n faith/obed 2 wat G said 2 them.
3. Gs peps focused not on blame/excus but on owning/confessing sin.
4. Emphasis wasnt on peps sin rather on Gs faithfulness/mercy/4give.
5. Gs pep exper saddness over sin/joy over Gs luv/mercy/right standing
6. Result: powerful spir renew/refresh/restor occurred n lives of Gs pep
B. B continually admonishes us 2 exam our lives & confess our sins 2 G.
1. 1cor11 but if we exam our lives, we wont b judged by G.

So ezra brought Gs Law b4the pep which inclu all the men/women/kids old enough 2understand. He stood from early am til 12 &read aloud2every1 who could understand. All Gs pep listened closely2Gs Law. Ezra stood n full view of the pep on a high platform made just 4 the occasion. 2his right/left stood all Isr’s rel/gov leaders. When they saw him open the bk they all rose2their ft& ezra praised the L the great G&all the pep chanted, amen/amen as they lifted their hands. Then they bowed&worshiped the L wth their faces2the ground. The Levites instructed the pep n Gs Law while every1 remained still. They read from Gs Law&clearly explained wat was being read. Then neh the gov/ezra the scribe&the Levites who were interpreting4the pep said, dont mourn/weep on a day like this! 2day is a sacred day b4 the L ur G. 4 the pep had been weeping as they listened2Gs Law. Neh said go celebr wth an abun feast&share gifts of food wth pep who have 0. This is a sacred day b4 our L. Dont b dejected/sad4the joy of the L is ur strength! Later the pep assembled again&this time they fasted/dressed n burlap/sprinkled dust on their heads. They confessed their own sins&the sins of their ancestors. They stood n pl 4 3hrs while Gs Law was read. Then 4 3more hrs they confessed their sins & worshiped the L. The Levites stood&cried out2the L their G wth loud voices. Then the levite leaders said2the pep: stand up&praise the L ur G4he lives from everlasting2everlasting! Bcause of all the sins of ahaz/judah, the L allowed the kg of aram2defeat ahaz&exile large#s of his pep. The army of isr also defeated ahaz&inflicted huge casualties on his army. N 1day pekah isr’s kg killed 120000 of judahs troops&captured 200000 women/kids&took much plunder back2samaria all bcause judah had aband the L. But a prophet of the L was n samaria as isr’s army returned home. He went&said: the L was angry wth judah&let u defeat them. But uve gone2far killing them w/o mercy&all heaven is grieved&now ur planning2makethem slaves. Wat about ur own sins against the LurG?
A. 2chr28: wat about ur sin? easy 2 bcome so indig/preoccu wth others sin we lose sight of ours&we r unwilling2give the mercy we so desper need.
B. B cont commands us 2 focus on/own/feel weight of our own sin/wrong.

4. our journ/success will b deter by who we travel thru life wth. If T wth isr/ruth/12/sailors, how much mor if our travel companion is G himself.
5. J invites us on a jour wth him & he proms 2b all we need/2get us home.

2) wat G says always come true no matter how long/unrealistic/imposs/ politically incorrect/offensive. **no matter wat/no matter wat.
3) no idea more stressed n B than “& it occurred just as L said”
4) jos21 not 1 of Gs good proms G made 2 his pep has failed
5) 2pet1 because of Gs glory/excel hes given us his great/prec proms
which enable us 2 share n Gs divine nature & escape worlds corrupt
2. how much unneces waste/loss could have been avoided if Gs wisdom/ warnings had not been ignored.

f. matt7 he who listens2/follows my teaching is wise like 1who builds a house on solid rk&when rain/floods/wind crash down it wont collapse because its built on rock. But he who hears my teaching/doesnt follow it is foolish like 1who builds a house on sand&when the rains/floods/ winds come, that house will collapse with a mighty crash.
g. ps1 O the joys of those who delight n Gs law& med on it cont. They r like flourishing/fruitful trees that dont wither/prosper n all they do. But not the wicked! They create&exper worthless/scattered lives that

B. 2kgs22-23 Background
1. josiah was hezs great grandson/last good SK kg. 100yrs after hez
2. approx 600 yrs b4 JC lived/took throne @ 8 after dads assassination
3. B says he loved/followed G wth same dev as dav/asa/jehosophate/hez
4. during big temple renov project, copy of Gs law (deut) was discovered
5. Gs wd 4gens was neglected/ignored/4gotten/ultimately lost
6. duet28 was read warning of Gs coming judgement&really impacted Jos
7. 2kg22: Jos did wat was right n the Ls eyes&walked n the wy of dav his f & didnt deviate. He raised $ 4temple repairs & during the wk Gs Law was disc&read it2jos. Jos tore his robes n great sorrow/repent. He had the scrip read2Gs pep&time of national revival/recommitment occurred
8. result was G 4gav peps sin & delayed the outpouring of his wrath/judge till after Jos death: because u humbled urself b4the L when u heard my wds.....Ive heard u&will spare u&ur pep. U believed me when I said this land would b cursed/desolate. U tore ur clothes n despair/weptb4 me n repent&Ive heard u. So Ill not send the prom disaster till after u die. U wont c the disaster ill send on this land. *occurred 50yrs latter.

1) ps1 the wicked r like chaff & will b condemned@the judgement
2) ps2 submit2 Gs S or he’ll become angry & ull b destroyed 4 his anger flares up n an nstant. But wat joy 4 all who trust n him!
3) ps9 uve rebuked the nations&destroyed the wicked; uve erased their names4ever. Ur enemies r finished n etern ruins; uprooted & 4gotten
4) ps10 the wicked r2proud2seek G/they think Gs dead & they succeed n all they do but they do not see ur punishment awaiting them.

g. Gs wrath is coming/cant b stopped/removed but can b delayed by the faith/faithfulness of Gs pep! *dav/hez/jos
4. but the message of the gospel declares: G has prov a way of escape from the coming wrath of G upon mans sin/rebellion.
a. rm1/8: when Gs wrath/judge appear all who r n C wont stand alone b4 G clothed n sin but n Cs right wth C@our side. Our sin will b 4giv & we’ll receive no condemn. *this rel/priv is gain solely by faith.
b. rm1 Im not ashamed of the gos of C. Its the power of G @wk saving all who believe both jews/gentiles. This gosp decl how G makes us right n his sight. Its accom from start2finish by faith. As the Scrip say, its thru faith a righteous person has life. But G shows his anger from heaven against all evil pep who suppress the truth by their wickedness
